Dear members
The time has come again for us to hold our Annual General Meeting and begin planning for 2025.
Following the work done analysing the potential amalgamation with Lions, the committee has continued to harness the valuable contribution made by so many and presents to the membership a full new Constitution for adoption. Our previous Constitution was created when YMCA and Coastal City merged back in the early 1990’s, with some minor amendments, but was now outdated and required renewal.
The most significant recommended change to the Constitution is the change of name from YMCA Coastal City Hockey Club to YMCC Hockey Club. The Committee is recommending this change for several reasons. The previous name was a combination of the two clubs that merged in the 1990’s, since we are now a strong unified club the time has come to simplify (and align to what we are commonly known as) to YMCC. The name still reflects the roots of our club history. The club is also not affiliated in any way with the “YMCA” and therefore should not have the acronym in its name. We trust the membership will endorse this change.
We are also recommending a new membership category call “Volunteer member” to cater for the number of non-playing people who contribute to the club. Those appointed to this membership category by the committee will have all the rights, including voting, as a senior playing member, but they will not be able to play for the club. It is envisaged that this category will cover nonplaying team managers, coaches, regular canteen and uniform volunteers and provide these valuable people a voice in the decisions of the club.
The composition of the Committee is listed as four core positions plus an ordinary committee member in the Constitution and includes a new role of Vice President. It is the recommendation of the current committee to also include the roles of Mens Coordinator, Womens Coordinator, Junior Coordinator and Club Services Coordinator however these are not detailed in the Constitution to allow easy amendment in years to come if new or changed roles are required. The role of Vice President has been separated from the traditional role of VP Mens and VP Womens to reflect how the club now needs to be managed due to size, complexities, and compliance.
The content of the Constitution has been written to reflect required clauses as per the Associations Incorporations Act 2015 which the club must follow to continue being an incorporated body. We present the Constitution as a full new document rather than amendments to the old document. Once endorsed at the Annual General Meeting, the document will need to be submitted to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety for review and approval.
I would to thanks Phil Wilson for his work on rewriting the Constitution and providing guidance and advice to the Committee.
I look forward to seeing everyone on 1 December
